P1 Motorsport have maintained their lead in both the driver and team World Series by Renault standings after Giedo van der Garde produced his fourth win of the season in Hungary.
Adding to his wins at Monza and Spa-Francorchamps, victory around the Hungaroring has not, however, seen van der Garde increase his championship lead.
Indeed, a retirement from a spin in the second race means Julien Jousse, who finished second in both races, leads the charge against van der Garde, albeit still from a considerable 41 points behind.
Nonetheless, van der Garde had good reason to celebrate when he benefited from Alexandre Marsoin's drive-through penalty in the first race to assume the lead and, with it, the victory.
“We were a bit lucky with Marsoin because he jumped the start, but that was his mistake, so we took our fourth victory and that's more points for the championship,” he said.
Elsewhere, Pippa Mann showed good pace in Hungary and arguably missed out on the chance of points in the first race when she spun from 16th position. She would go on to finish an eventual 15th, before retiring following a collision at the start of the second.
“We experienced pretty severe oversteer on the car and unfortunately the handling was affected and I lost control a couple of times,” she said after the first race. “It's unusual for me to do that under race conditions so I'm frustrated with the situation.”
