Sunday, 13th July 2008

Guillaume Moreau leaves KTR and the World Series as he falls out of title contention.

KTR are looking for two new drivers to compete for them in the remainder of the World Series by Renault season after Guillaume Moreau joined Daniil Move in leaving the team.

A bitter blow for the Belgian team after Move quit following a run of poor results, Moreau has now followed him out just a day later after conceding that his title hopes have been dashed by a dismal weekend in Hungary.

The Frenchman scored a pole position and led last year's race around the Hungaroring, but this year crashed heavily in practice in a car he claimed was impossible to drive.

Going on to finish outside the points in the two races, Formula 3 Euroseries race winner Moreau has now slipped to 11th in the standings and believes he is too far out of reach for the title now to continue being ‘also-ran'.

“Last year I took a comfortable pole position here and I'd have won the race had it not been for a strategy error. In free practice my car was so difficult to drive that I couldn't avoid an off on Thursday morning.

“Just to make things worse the car caught fire on the tow truck and I wasn't able to run in the afternoon! We barely improved our performance in Friday's free practice, and I began qualifying knowing that I wouldn't be able to do battle with the front-runners.”

“During my career I've never been so far back on the grid in normal conditions. I don't know if the team can react quickly enough to give me a competitive machine but my weekend's already gone down the tubes!”

“I stated that my aim was to fight for the title. Halfway through the year I've got no chance seeing how far back I am, and I'm just not interested in being an also-ran. The team's disappointed: I am too but it's the best decision, as I don't see any other solution. We've never really been competitive with the 2008 car.”
