Three quarters of the 20 strong Cadet B final grid would go home disappointed at the end of the 12-lap affair and although Sam Cassidy, Adam Stirling, Sam Parrant and Luke Hughes began proceedings in the four ‘transfer’ spots to the A final, unsurprisingly it didn’t stay that way for long.
Cassidy and Stirling both took turns in leading the early running before sixth place starter Nathan Harrison and then fifth place starter Jack Thorne took the point with Thorne looking particularly impressive on what had thus far been a day filled with misfortune for the Bideford lad.
As aggressive as Thorne was, Stirling was also not content with running second and retook the lead on lap nine. Thorne proved too strong in the end though, retaking the lead for good on the penultimate lap and winning a race he hadn’t banked on being in.
Stirling, Abigail Gerry and Harrison completed the list of qualifiers for the main race with Harrison passing Henry Hunter on the final tour to claim the final place on the A Final grid.
With two heat wins and a second place from his three earlier races it was no surprise to see that Wykes had qualified on pole for the final with Truelove alongside on row one and Albon and the consistent Byrne on row two. The impressive Skriczka would start fifth and Millar a superb ninth, ahead of many more fancied runners.
At the green light Wykes made no mistake from pole and escaped into an early lead. Albon made good use of his preferred track position into the opening corner and snatched second away from Truelove and set about hunting down the fleeing Wykes.
