“Now we have all dropped our worst round we know where we are in terms of the championship and which teams are going to pose the biggest threat,” said Lowndes.
“There are still four rounds of the championship to go and it is all still up for grabs, we need to keep our focus on consistency and reliability.
“While there is always a great atmosphere at Indy, this weekend’s event is the toughest of the four remaining championship rounds and it is a circuit that commands millimetre-perfect precision on track.”
“We are in a good position heading into this round. We are leading the championship, I love racing on street circuits and this is an event we won last year."
Rick Kelly is the hunter in the championship battle and is hoping to catch Lowndes this weekend.
“The championship is alive, and we are going to do our best to chase it down, starting at Surfers Paradise. The Indy circuit is awesome. We go from doing a 1000km race at Bathurst to racing through the streets on a really tight track,” said Kelly.
“I think we will go really well there because that sort of track suits the way I drive and the car we have under us. To achieve a really quick lap there, you probably need to clip at least one wall! We showed we had really good car speed at Adelaide, which is a similar track with a lot of changes of direction. I am looking forward to getting there and seeing what sort of car speed we will have.”
The third realistic chance of winning the championship is Mark Winterbottom who will hopefully perform well this weekend in order to stay in the battle for FPR.
"The importance of qualifying at this round is paramount - and this is one of our strongest areas, which is good heading into the three races on this challenging street circuit,” said Winterbottom.
