Todd Kelly – Holden Racing Team
“It was a good session and we have improved since Adelaide and Perth. It (the car) is starting to feel like our VZ did towards the end of 2006; very fast and very driveable. We can now be confident of making running changes to explore the new cars potential. We can make the right changes quicker on race weekends to hopefully keep ahead of the competition.”
James Courtney – Stone Brothers Racing/Jeld-Wen
“The JELD-WEN crew had a lot of work to do over the break since Barbagallo, getting a new front and new side finished on the car. We decided to work hard in the shop and get some new parts on the car this weekend rather than test and it’s worked really well so far. The JELD-WEN Falcon felt really strong. There are a few areas where we feel we can pick up more time but overall the package feels good. We were doing some fast times on old tyres in today’s practice session. The lap times remained pretty consistent. It seems that we have a good race car as well as a fast qualifying car so the signs are good.”
Mark Winterbottom – Ford Performance Racing
“We have had strong practice pace this season and there is no doubt that we have the car pace for a strong performance at this round. The challenge is to ensure that we translate this into Pole position tomorrow. We will be working hard tonight to ensure that we are set-up well for qualifying so we can have a clean run tomorrow and place the Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon somewhere at the front end tomorrow.”
Garth Tander – Toll HSV Dealer Team
“That was a little bit strange. The car wasn’t that flash for three-quarters of the session, but when we bolted on the next set of tyres, we were right up where we were meant to be. We are a little bit confused whether it was the tyres or we were out of the window a little bit, set-up wise. So we will sit down tonight and look at what we want to do tomorrow. Our pace at the end here was obviously encouraging.”
Rick Kelly – Toll HSV Dealer Team
“The way we worked through the session was really good. We made a lot of gains and the car reacted really well, and was a nice solid car all the way through. The thing that hurt us was the difference in tyre sets. It is really disappointing that two sets can be so different. Provided our sets tomorrow in qualifying are consistent, we should be looking good.”
Craig Lowndes - TeamVodafone
“The car was reasonably good straight up but we lacked a little bit of drive which we worked on throughout the session. Ninety percent the changes we made today were good, however there were a couple that sent us momentarily in the wrong direction. When we put the second set of new tyres on the car it responded like we had hoped but I made a small mistake and locked up coming out of Turn 5 which cost us a better time. There is definitely more time left in both me and the car.”
Russell Ingall – Stone Brothers Racing/Caltex
“We had a reasonable start today despite losing a lot of track time. I made a small mistake and fell off the track, unfortunately damaging the diff which took some time to fix. Once we got back out in the second part of practice, we were back on it pretty quickly. We are still not quite quick enough. James (Courtney) is obviously carrying good speed so we will throw in his set up for qualifying; there’s no need to reinvent the wheel.”
Will Davison – Jim Beam Racing
“The car is definitely in the window, I managed to improve as the session went on and we had no problems. I made a few mistakes on new tyres but I’m confident that there is a few tenths left in the car and we’ll improve on this in qualifying tomorrow. Overall, I’m pretty happy with our progress today.”
