For many drivers, this is a track that feels as though it runs backwards. Passing is possible at turns two and the final hairpin, and there are several other small opportunities throughout the lap to stick a move. An ill-handling setup will punish drivers considerably here
Tyre management is pivotal to a successful race, with the bumpy surface able to easily upset a car with little grip.
The Winner
Heavy rain and storms have been forecast for this weekend, and as a common rule in motorsport, precipitation is often a great equaliser. In the event of a wet race, where the onus is put on the driver and speed advantage is generally neutralised, wet-weather specialists such as Craig Lowndes, Jason Bright, Mark Skaife and Steven Richards could easily vie for honours.
One driver to watch in stormy conditions will be reigning champion Rick Kelly, who claimed Holden's 150th round win in the last wet race at Eastern Creek back in 2004.
Ford's current championship hope, Jamie Whincup, is also another all-rounder who could prove strong in varying conditions, after winning the dampened Winton round last month.
If the poor weather clears up and fans are graced with a dry race, it is more than likely that the powerhouses of the Toll HSV Dealer Team and Holden Racing Team will come to the fore, with a distinct advantage of horsepower, chassis development and the date of four cars creating an almost unbeatable scenario.
