Greg Murphy took victory in the second race of round eleven of the V8 Supercar Series at Surfers Paradise after a poor start by pole-sitter Marcos Ambrose left the reigning champ with plenty to do.
In contrast to Saturday's contact-fest, Sunday's longer race was far more restrained, although Rick Kelly collected a slower Jason Bright after the PWR man had a moment in an earlier corner and destroyed both Bright's Commodore and title hopes in one go. Just like Saturday's race, Kelly received a drive-through.
In the early stages of the race a rocket start from Craig Lowdnes put the CAT FPR driver right with Murphy but Lowndes ultimately pushed just too hard and broke his steering on a tyre stack.
The safety-car period brought about by Bright's crash meant a two-lap blast to the chequered flag, but this circuit does not make for an easy overtake, although Ambrose was to pass Todd Kelly who he had battled for the entire race after his poor start, the HRT man just running on vapours and the switch to the auxiliary pumps meant Ambrose could pass.
Though the race itself may have been light on action, the post race press conference certainly was not. Ambrose was asked about the stewards inquiry into his actions towards Rick Kelly after Saturday's race where it was alleged he brake-tested Kelly after crossing the line and had words with the young Holden driver afterwards.
Whilst Ambrose was very far from vocal on the topic despite the questions, Murphy was not holding back as he grilled and mocked the Ford man.
