Skaife spins, Ambrose wins.

Marcos Ambrose extended his championship lead after the first race in the Australian V8 Supercar Series at Surfers Paradise for round eleven of the championship.

After Skaife's departure from front-end contention, Ambrose briefly had the threat of Steven Richards behind to think about, but the Castrol Perkins driver's gear stick decided to give up the ghost and leave the Bathurst pole-sitter in fourth gear. A return to the pits for replacement and then later race contact was to result.

Greg Murphy was then the next driver behind Ambrose but there was no threat and the only problem the Tasmanian would have in the dying stages was the attentions of the younger Kelly brother who would not pass, despite Ambrose's attempts to let him through.
