Mark Skaife, owner and lead driver of the Holden Racing Team has capitalized on a pole position start, winning the first of two V8 Supercar races held today at Oran Park.
Skaife started alongside his HRT team mate, Todd Kelly, who held second position for the majority of the race, before succumbing to the Falcon of Marcos Ambrose.
Ambrose began the race from fifth position, and drove well to reach second place, though Skaife had already established a solid lead during the 54-lap sprint race.
Ambose's team mate, Russell Ingall demonstrated impressive speed during the race, but he was not able to finish higher than third position.
Although the race was fairly clean, Max Wilson suffered a hit strong enough to keep his car out of the final results, while Glenn Seton of Ford Performance Racing had a major shunt in the pre-race warm-up that dashed his hopes of a decent result at Sydney's Oran Park.
Marcos Ambrose's second place puts him in a good position to continue his championship campaign, ahead of current championship leader Jason Bright, although it is a very closely contended title fight between Ambrose, Bright, Rick Kelly and Steven Richards.
