“Hidden Valley was the turning point for us last year. From that point on, we went to tracks that were very good for us,” said Kelly, “So far this year, we have managed to pull points from tracks that were not so good for us, so we are feeling good about things right now.”
As previously mentioned, there appears to be little challenge from the Blue Oval in 2006. Only Craig Lowndes and the two Ford Performance Racing Falcons have mounted any real challenge. Leading Ford’s campaign with second on adjusted standings, Lowndes believes his Team Betta Electrical outfit can put a second consecutive victory together after a solid run at Winton.
“We visit quite a few circuits throughout the year that call upon all of a driver’s physical strength, but Darwin adds the element of very high temperature that is crucial to be able to endure if you’re going to figure in the results,” said Lowndes.
Both Ford Performance Racing drivers Mark Winterbottom and Jason Bright are looking likely to make the team the best Blue Oval outfit in 2006. despite announcing his departure to Fujitsu Racing next year, Bright is still searching to get FPR a win in 2006, and young teammate Winterbottom has been very consistent in 2006 so far.
"I have always enjoyed racing at Hidden Valley, I have had some great races there and I have no doubt that the nature of this circuit will particularly suit our cars,” said Bright.
“Our speed coming into this round places FPR in a very strong position for success. After coming so close at Winton, I couldn't think of a better place to take that top step on the podium. This is a major event in Darwin and our races at Hidden Valley generate a great deal of excitement and atmosphere with the Northern Territory fans."
"I like Hidden Valley because it is a fast and flowing circuit that suits my driving style,” said Winterbottom.
“This circuit will also suit our cars very well based on the speed that we have shown on this type of circuit so far this season. I have had one visit to the podium with FPR and I am eager for more - Darwin would be just the place given the atmosphere of this great round."
