Matthew White has declared he will be pulling out all the stops to win tomorrow's Konica Minolta V8 Supercar support race at the Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 after qualifying third.
I have come close too many times during the Konica Support Races at Mount Panorama but tomorrow I will be out to win, White stated.
The Melbourne based racer is prepared to take risks to get his Gulf Western Oils/ Jayco Caravans Falcon first across the finish line Saturday afternoon.
The competition always raises the bar at Bathurst but this year we have the car to come out on top and I will be using it to my advantage, White declared.
When it was put to White that an aggressive approach could backfire, he was quick to agree, It most certainly could, but if I take the safe road then even the best car in the world would not get me standing on top of the podium.
White traded places with Andrew Jones and Greg Ritter several times during the 40 minute qualifying session, at one point doing a flying lap, clocking 2.09.6', half a second faster than his fastest qualifying time last year.
We left our run late, I set down a great time in the first split but someone had gone off over the top of the mountain and I lost my speed, leaving me no time to better my previous best lap to get on pole, White said.
In 2003, White was so close to taking the top rung at Mt Panorama - I started in the top three and worked my way into the lead. I finished the race in third after making a mistake under brakes at the Chase.
With this being White's last race for 2004 in the Gulf Western Oil/Jayco Falcon has given him an extra incentive to push the car to the front of the field in tomorrow's 25-lap support race.
Our sponsors have given us so much support this year and putting the team on top of the podium at the greatest race in Australia is the best way I can think of to repay them, White commented.
