Team BOC endured mixed emotions in qualifying for the Bathurst 1000, with Andrew Jones qualifying the #12 Falcon in a solid 15th place but Damien White suffering an accident that left him hospitalised and put the sister car out of action for the remainder of the weekend.
Jones enjoyed a reasonably trouble free run in the car he will share with Simon Wills, only making one small mistake at the chase on his way to 15th. The two drivers will now aim to make further progress in the final practice sessions ahead of the race.
"Qualifying was quite OK for me, I was happy with the effort I put in," Jones said. "The great thing about qualifying here is that you have a bit more time and a few more tyres so you can push a little more, knowing that you have time redeem yourself if you make a little mistake. I had a little moment at the chase and flat spotted a tyre, but I had time to come in and put another set of tyres on the car and have another go. The good thing is you can find the limits a bit more so you can really push and I feel that that was about the most I was going to get out of it.
"The car seems to work a little better on a worn tyre, and we haven't really been outside the top 13 all weekend, so that is probably a bit more indicative of what will happen come Sunday."
However, things didn't go to plan for White after his lost control at the top of the Mountain. He lost consciousness during the accident and was airlifted from the circuit shortly after the crash - although he is now stable and under observation.
The damage to the car is such that it may not be ready for the next round at Indy in a fortnights time.
"First of all, the main thing is Damien is OK," White's team-mate Christian Murchison said. "It's obviously extremely disappointing that the weekend has ended the way it has, but, the main thing is Damien is OK."
