Team BOC will line up on the Gold Coast this weekend with both Falcons ready to race.
After a marathon rebuild operation which saw the #12 Team BOC Falcon completely striped and rebuilt, and a spare Falcon shell re-commissioned, both cars left Albury bound for the Gold Coast on Monday.
Team owner, Brad Jones, was full of praise for his team: “The guys did a fabulous job last week.
“If anyone followed the team website last week they would have seen that it was a really involved job getting both cars to a state where they could be loaded into the transporter and be ready to race.”
Andrew Jones' #12 car was badly damaged by the fire that ended both his and Simon Wills' Supercheap Auto 1000.
“The damage was probably a bit more extensive than we first though. The fire, as well as the cosmetic damage, basically shorted the wiring harness in the car from the headlights to the taillights. Of the rebuild, that would have been easily the most time consuming part of the operation,” said regular #12 pilot Jones.
The #14 Team BOC Falcon, driven by Damien White and Christian Murchison at Bathurst has, for the moment at least, been retired - damage done during Bathurst qualifying too great to be repaired in the short term.
For Indy, Wills will step into the teams remaining spare chassis, as used by John Bowe during the second half of the 2006 season.
“While it would be nice to be back into the car I have been using since Winton, the three chassis that BJR have are all the same in terms of engineering, so I can't foresee any dramas this weekend,” Simon added.
Both drivers are looking forward the Indy carnival, with hopes of leaving their endurance dramas behind them.
“This is only my second time to the streets of the Gold Coast, but I am really looking forward to it,” Jones added.
Wills is also light on experience at Indy, however it's a circuit he really enjoys, finishing just off the podium at his last start on the Gold Coast in 2004.
