Technical infringement sees FPR man sent to the back.

After the delight of securing pole position at Surfers Paradise, Mark Winterbottom has seen luck desert him after the Ford Performance Racing man was demoted to the rear of the for the first race of the weekend.

Winterbottom had stormed to pole with a lap record time to put him ahead of the Toll HSV Holden of Garth Tander but it was then found that Winterbottom's Falcon had an ignition timing that exceeded the permitted maximum advance.

As a result, Winterbottom was excluded from qualifying and will start from the rear of the field, with Tander inheriting pole as a result.
