Having been one of the drivers caught up in the numerous drive through penalties handed down in the second race of the V8 Supercar Challenge at Surfers Paradise, James Courtney battled back to just miss the podium in race three – taking seventh for the round in the process.
After a solid run to sixth place in the opening race, the Stone Brothers Racing man was looking good for a fine result in race two until he was hit with a penalty for speeding on pit lane – a penalty which dropped him from fifth down to 22nd. From there, he battled back into the points to take 15th and then made up further positions in race three to just miss out on a podium in fourth.
“I really raced the wheels off the JELD-WEN Falcon in race three today,” he said. “I had to scrape my way through this afternoon from 15th to fourth. It's really difficult to pass on this circuit and you really have to drive hard to pick up that many positions.
“Without the drive through penalty in race two this morning we may have been up there on the podium. But I had a great time out there. It's great for the team to have Russell second today after our second at Bathurst; it gives everyone a boost at the end of the year.
“Look out Bahrain!”
