Shane van Gisbergen continued to impress for Team Kiwi after picking up a double points finish from the latest round of the V8 Supercar Championship in Bahrain.

The teenager, who stepped up into the drive at Oran Park earlier in the season, qualified in 23rd place on the grid for his first race at the desert circuit but came through the field to take the flag in 15th and secure the final points scoring position.

Although delayed in the second race after being caught up behind a spinning Team Vodafone Falcon, van Gisbergen then took home a second points finish of the weekend in the final race as he took the flag in 13th place.

It means the teenager ended the weekend in 15th overall for the round as he continued a run of form that has seen him score points in three of the five rounds he has contested so far.

“I really enjoyed this weekend and we are starting to make some real head way as a team,” van Gisbergen said. “We could have even been a little better in race two if the Vodafone car had not spun in front of me where I had to avoid it and dropped 5 track positions in doing so and again in the third race where we eventually finished 13th but dropped five seconds in the pits with a stuck wheel nut during our compulsory pit stop.”

Team owner David John said he was pleased with the performance of his young charger and said the results so far left him confident for the future.

“There are so many teams who have not scored any points this year in the championship as points are only allocated from 1st position to 15th,” he said, “yet Shane has collected points in three of the five rounds he has driven at this year.

“When you consider the Bahrain round of the championship was only the fifth time the new look Team Kiwi crew and Team Kiwi driver have been together, the future is looking very exciting for Team Kiwi Racing as we continue to build up to the start of the 2008 championship.”
