The embattled Holden Racing Team will seek to turn around its fortunes in the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship at Symmons Plains Raceway this weekend, as team leader Mark Skaife looks to end the year on a high note.
I reckon we're due for a really good weekend and Symmons Plains could well be it, said Skaife, who dropped to eleventh in the championship after an abysmal showing in Bahrain.
Skaife, who is competing in his eleventh season with the flagship Holden Racing Team, has struggled in the latter stages of the season, as the Commodores driven by himself and team mate Todd Kelly have been consistently outdone by the cars from the sister Toll HSV Dealer Team.
Symmons Plains is a track that Skaife knows well, and the five time Bathurst champion is hoping to claim a solid result at the Tasmanian venue.
The red team has been out of the box quickly at Symmons on most occasions and more of the same is required, he said.
After netting a record breaking thirty-eighth round victory at Eastern Creek earlier in the year, Skaife is looking to earn another wreath to resurrect his championship standing, and to deliver an important scalp to the Holden brand.
A good points tally could help on the series table where car #2 could leap back to seventh from eleventh if things go to plan as only points separate myself from a bunch of Ford guys, he said
A win for the factory team this weekend would also go down extra well at Fisherman's Bend, as it would secure the 2007 Manufacturer's Championship for Holden.
