WPS Racing's Jason Bargwanna and Max Wilson are anticipating a tough fight at Symmons Plains this weekend as the championship picture hots up with two rounds remaining.
Whilst the Toll HSV Dealer Team and Team Vodafone fight out the main battle of the weekend, Bargwanna and Wilson will be fighting to claim more championship points to elevate them from positions seventeen and eighteen on the series ladder.
As a venue, Symmons Plains hold special significance for the team, as is the circuit of WPS Racing's only race win in V8 Supercars – back in 2004 with David Besnard in the Team Australia-branded BA Falcon.
Whilst a slick strategy combined with a malfunction in the circuit timing system to hand WPS the win that day, current drivers Bargwanna and Wilson have struggled against a much faster competition in 2007.
However with sustained development of the WPS and WOW BF Falcons over the past several rounds, both pilots are keen to ascend up the championship table.
“We're on a bit of a roll at the moment after a couple of good results,” said Bargwanna.
“We are all hoping to continue that this weekend. The boys have been working hard so I really want to continue to reward their efforts with good results.
“We've made a lot of improvements to our cars and I think we're in good shape. If you have a car with good braking performance and that looks after it's tyres you will do well this weekend.”
Wilson is aiming to qualify well – in important component of building a successful weekend at Symmons Plains.
“There are only two rounds remaining this year so I really want to finish the season with some good results,” said Wilson.
“We continue to improve the WOW car. We have the right direction so we've just got to translate that into good results this weekend.
“If you can qualify in the front half of the field it makes scoring points in the races a lot easier, so the aim is to be close to the pace in qualifying and work from there.”
Friday practice will be the only opportunity for the drivers to gain a feel for the track before qualifying on Saturday.
