The Holden Racing Team enters tomorrow's qualifying session and opening race for the Dunlop Grand Finale in a good position after finishing with both cars in the top four during the final practice session for the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series.
Whilst Mark Winterbottom claimed the session for Ford ahead of championship favourite Garth Tander, the Holden Racing Team's two drivers were separated by a slender three thousandths of a second, after completing an equal number of laps.
Todd Kelly headed team mate Mark Skaife, the latter participating in his two-hundredth round start.
“Our car was built from scratch in only nine days and it's a real credit to the guys,” said a pleased Mark Skaife.
“We finished it yesterday with no test session and it was immediately on the pace to record a best time within one-hundredth of a second from third. It's been a fantastic effort and a sign of things to come.”
Kelly was pleased with his good showing, after a season of difficulties and disappointments.
“There was rubbish and stones on the track so you had to be in the right place at the right time to get a good time,” he said.
“We had a large menu of things to try and this could pay off tomorrow.
“So far everything has come together and it's all looking okay.”
After criticisms were levelled at the Holden Racing Team for interfering with championship contenders at the final round in 2006, Todd Kelly he stated that he will not be doing so in this year's final round.
“As far as getting involved in the Championship decider, there has been no discussions amongst us at HRT and there will be no weird stuff from us - the others can do the best they can.”
Kelly's brother Rick is an outside chance to defend his 2006 championship this weekend, with Garth Tander and Jamie Whincup the likely candidates to contest for the trophy.
