Team Vodafone has finished second in the V8 Supercar Drivers' Championship for the third successive year, after Jamie Whincup lost by a narrow two point margin to Garth Tander in today's title decider.
Despite finishing ahead of the Toll HSV Dealer Team driver in today's final race of the Dunlop Grand Finale at Phillip Island, Whincup was unable to overtake him in the championship standings.
A slim two point buffer between Tander and Whincup saw Team Vodafone lose out to the Toll HSV Dealer Team for the drivers crown for the second year in a row.
Despite this, the Triple Eight Race Engineering team recorded a number of solid achievements in 2007, including an enduro double with wins in the Just Car Insurance 500 at Sandown, and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Team Vodafone also finished second in the team's championship - another solid achievement to add to its two-three finish in the Drivers' standings.
Although he narrowly missed winning the 2007 title, Jamie Whincup praised his team for their solid effort all year.
It was a fantastic year for our team, said Whincup.
It was a great team effort and I am proud of everyone in our organisation.
We were beaten by a better guy on the day but we have come a long way this year and next year will be another great challenge.
Craig Lowndes also complemented Team Vodafone for a strong year of achievements, despite losing the title.
We did all we could today but in the end we fell short, Lowndes said.
We played a fair fight and pushed hard but just couldn't do enough to get the title for Jamie.
I'm disappointed but still very proud of the team and what we have achieved this season.
Team Vodafone will enter 2008 with an unchanged line up, and with a view to continue their strong form of three years.
