A thrilling end to the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series has seen Garth Tander clinch the Drivers' Championship and the Toll HSV Dealer Team snare the Teams' title.
Spectators at the Dunlop Grand Finale saw Garth Tander raise both the round and series trophies at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
It was an emphatic championship win for Tander, who won fifteen races and four rounds of the championship.
Tander's championship win compensated for his second-place finish in the 2000 Shell Championship Series, when he lost out to Holden Racing Team driver, Mark Skaife.
“It certainly hasn't sunk in,” he said.
“It was fantastic effort by our guys all year, especially this weekend.
“We dug ourselves out of the biggest hole we have had post qualifying, and it was just absolute elation – I just can't believe we did it.
“Our team has won two championships in the three years I have been there, and to win my championship with them is absolutely fantastic.”
Tander's win saw the Toll HSV Dealer Team secure the V8 Supercar Championship double for the second year running, with 2006 champion team mate Rick Kelly assisting the squad in securing the Teams' trophy as well.
Kelly's weekend did not go to plan, after starting from pole position in race one, the deposed champion could only manage seventh overall.
“It is a massive relief to see that it is all done for the year with Garth wrapping it up,” said Kelly.
“Unfortunately I was pretty much out of the running before we got here, and he just did a great job.
“To win back to back championships in both Drivers and Teams is fantastic, it shows we are the best team out there and hopefully next year we can prove it again as well.”
