Perkins launches JDR 2008.

The Perkins Engineering-run Jack Daniel's Racing has taken the covers off its 2008 V8 Supercar title contender, with team leader Todd Kelly and second-year steerer Shane Price at the team's official launch.

Team Owner Larry Perkins was positive on his outfit's chances for the 2008 series crown after a difficult 2007 saw Jack Daniel's Racing finish last in the Teams' Championship.

Despite such a negative outcome from last year, JDR was the only team to run two rookies.

This year, ex-Holden Racing Team driver Todd Kelly has joined Perkins to spearhead their campaign, with Shane Price continuing as number-two steerer.

“I stand by my decision to run two rookies in Shane and Jack last year – we knew it was going to be tough, but that's what you have to do for young guys to gain experience,” said Perkins.

“When we found out Todd was available we jumped at the chance and we're delighted to have him on board,” Perkins said.

“There are few top-shelf drivers with the ability that Todd has, an ability to understand the entire process and work on the car.

“In the short time he's been here you can't help but notice Todd lives and breathes racing, and his enthusiasm is incredible. It's a pleasure having him around.”

2008 marks the first year out of Holden's Walkinshaw-run operations for Kelly. The Mildura-born driver previously drove for the Holden Young Lions and Kmart Racing before competing for the HRT between 2003 and 2007.

Kelly had his first hit out in the Jack Daniel's VE Commodore after the completion of the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series, and is looking forward to racing competitively with the team at the Clipsal 500 in February – the race that he took top points in last year.

“I've been spending a lot of time at the workshop, and everyone has been welcoming of my input and ideas. We've been having fantastic discussions and debates and it's just been a good change and great atmosphere so far.
