Will Davison led the challenge for the Jim Beam Racing team as practice kicked off for the second round of the V8 Supercar Championship season at Eastern Creek.
Davison took the #18 Falcon to the fifth quickest time during the session which provided the Dick Johnson Racing-run team with a solid platform for the remainder of the weekend although he admitted that he'd hoped for more from the day.
"Fantastic start to the weekend, although I would have liked to have been top three, it's a solid start and a good foundation to build on for qualifying,” he said. "The car has good speed, we played around with set up a little and to be top of the time sheet for a majority of the session is very pleasing.
Davison's team-mate Steve Johnson was 19th on the time sheets after practice, Eastern Creek proving to be a circuit he can't seem to find a good balance at for his Falcon.
“There is something about the Eastern Creek circuit that just doesn't seem to click with the #17 Falcon," he said. "I just couldn't find the speed in the car at certain points of the track where Will seemed to be quicker, we can't put the finger on what it is but we have some work to do before qualifying."
Davison and Johnson weren't the only Jim Beam Racing drivers to take to the Eastern Creek circuit, with Steve Owen and Warren Luff making the most of a first up practice session open to the 2008 endurance event drivers, recording the quickest times amongst the non-regular drivers.
