“We didn't get the qualifying we wanted and being the Grand Prix and not for points we decided to take the cautious approach, which probably hurt us a bit,” he said. “At the end of the day the car is straight and we are still learning plenty; that is the positive we will take out of it. We are always improving it, the cars setup and driver performance are the two things we will focus on and make sure we keep working in the right direction.

“Shane Price clipped the tyres through turn nine and they were mid air, they landed on our car which affected our performance there for a couple of laps. When there are tyres flying through the air and you are not quite sure where they are going to head it certainly gets you thinking!

“The Holden versus Ford format stirred up a few surprises in qualifying and the top ten shootout, it's a different format and I think it's a perfect opportunity to use it at the Grand Prix when its not for points.”
