Garth Tander has paid homage to the Toll Holden Racing Team after he dominated the Sprint Gas V8 Supercar Manufacturers Challenge at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne at the weekend.
The 2007 V8 Supercar champion was unstoppable in his number one Commodore and he won all three races to convincingly take the round victory.
The result though will have no bearing on the battle for the 2008 title, as it was a non-championship affair. As such Tander remains eighth in the V8 Supercar drivers' championship standings, 214 points behind current leader Jamie Whincup.
Speaking at the finish, however, he was still very happy and clearly delighted with how his car performed over the four-days.
"This has been a great weekend for Holden thanks to a tremendous effort by all the guys at the Toll Holden Racing Team, to back up after a championship round last weekend," he noted.
"We had three really good starts and my Commodore was the best race car I've ever driven, so I'm really happy with it all. The key was matching the car to the circuit's varying grip levels, which our team did exceptionally well; our pace today was really good."
Mark Skaife meanwhile struggled with high engine temperatures in race 3, but pressed on to secure fourth and fourth on the individual points across the Grand Prix event.
Despite not being overly pleased with his own result, Skaife was happy to see his team-mate do so well and to see Holden beat Ford so convincingly in the Manufacturer's Challenge.
"For Holden and the Toll Holden Racing Team it was a terrific weekend, for Garth to take three wins in such a dominating fashion and for Holden to win the Manufacturer's Challenge was extremely satisfying," said Skaife.
"My car speed over the weekend was probably better than the position we've finished up with, but we had some brake issues in Races 1 and 2 while today we struggled with engine temperature.
