Rick Kelly and Paul Dumbrell will hope to build on the result strong form of the HSV Dealer Team at Barbagallo Raceway as the V8 Supercar Championship heads to the Perth circuit for the latest round of the year.
The team secured a 1-2 finish at Barbagallo last year with Kelly and Garth Tander which puts the team in good shape going into the event this time around and Kelly said he was hopeful of transferring the form from 2007 into the race weekend.
“The team finished first and second at the Barbagallo circuit last year so we have a good base setup to go back there with this year, which is positive for us,” he said. “Hopefully we can transfer that car setup into something that is going to be even quicker this weekend and which will give us that first podium for the year.
“Qualifying is very important at every track we go to these days with the technicality of the cars we operate and the tyres we use. With the competitiveness we face, track position is everything and the results come from three key ingredients including qualifying, the race start and your pit stop strategy to determine overall track position.
“For us we need to improve in all of those areas, we need to qualify a little higher, get a good race start and ensure we have the slickest pit stop times in pit lane.”
On the other side of the garage, Dumbrell pushed for a top ten result in round three in Hamilton and hopes to transfer the improvements in car setup and speed he has gained in the first three rounds into a positive result in Perth.
“We have been chipping away year to date and we have been making some consistent improvements and now is really the time where we really need to put everything together.
“It is round four of the championship and I am feeling really confident. The team is performing really well; 'Ricko' is leading the Championship, so now I just need to piece it all together.”
