Team-mate Craig Lowndes took fourth as Team Vodafone banished the Barbagallo hoodoo that appeared to hang over the team from previous visits. Although he felt that he could have finished higher if he had not had a six-second pit-stop in the opening race of the day, Lowndes absolutely blitzed the start of race three, leap-frogging from fourth to second, before dropping back to his original spot as a consequence of a set-up change.
At the end of the race, I felt like I was driving a drift car, he said, We made a change to the car between races, but it took us in the wrong direction. It was a good clean race, and I enjoyed battling with Jamie - at least I know he is going to give me racing room. Overall, third and fourth for the weekend - given this track's history with our team - is pretty good and I am pleased we have some positive points towards our championship objective."
Fifth place fell to Will Davison, who swapped places with Rick Kelly in the final event of the weekend after jumping the HSV Commodore at the start.
"We expect to qualify much higher than we did, so to salvage a respectable result was a terrific effort given we were under the pump after qualifying," the Jim Beam Racing ace commented, "We had a good race car, but it was just a little off the pace this weekend. We were able to rectify a few issues, but we will look ahead to Sandown and make some improvements and find some extra speed."
After admitting to mistakes in race two, Kelly felt that he had 'finally got our act together in race three'.
"I got a reasonable start, but I got jumped by Will Davison," he admitted, "We had a good pit-stop and, to be honest, drove ten-tenths the whole race, but it was just a tough one to move forward. We really had to push hard every lap to keep sixth and that's the best we could do.
