TeamVodafone have edged one step closer to the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship title with drivers Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes sharing the podium at the penultimate round of the series at Tasmania's Symmons Plains Raceway on Sunday.

Whincup won both of the day's 50-lap races to take the round win with teammate Lowndes performing the rear gunners role to finish second in each race and also secure third overall.

In what was an incredible display of great teamwork TeamVodafone's drivers, pitstop crew and engineers all combined to deliver a very clear message - they want this to be the year they win the championship.

The win was Whincup sixth of the season and he became only the seventh driver in 50 years to win four rounds in succession.

“I thought I had a major issue with tyre delimitation with only 10-laps to go in the final race but luckily it only turned out to be pick-up from the safety car period,” Whincup said.

“The car, in fact both cars were simply fantastic. This weekend was very important for us and it is great to see the team put in a huge effort to put us in a great position going into the final round.

“The championship is a lot closer and whilst it is not over until it's over, we are feeling confident and we will be looking to finish the year in the best possible way," he concluded.

Lowndes acknowledged that had it not been for a minor setback in qualifying the team were on song for its second one-two round finish.

“It was important to have a strong result this weekend particularly after what was a relatively stressful week after Bahrain.

“The pitstops were great, the cars were good and the formation finish just capped it off. If I had of qualified better we would have been staring down the barrel of another one-two.

“Whilst we had different car setup it was very pleasing to see we had similar pace which will give us more options in a fortnights time," he added.

TeamVodafone also celebrated another milestone this weekend with Whincup securing the Amor All Pole Position Award.
