“The overall results this year unfortunately don't reflect the potential the
Citroen C2 Super 1600 has shown on the stages,” he noted. “Everyone says that the car and the driver are the quickest of this year's JWRC but our season has been troubled by a variety of incidents. I'm more frustrated than disappointed, both for ourselves and the team. Our approach won't change though. We will begin at our own pace and try to score as many points as possible. We won't start totting up the points until the finish.”
Meeke will be joined by four other drivers running in Citroen C2’s, namely Julien Pressac, Martin Propkop, Aaron Burkart and Fabien Fiandino, all will run in C2 S1600s, with the exception of Fiandino, who will again use the C2-R2, which made its world class debut in Finland in August.
The two Junior WRC driver who have opted
not to contest this event are Kalle Pinomaki and Barry Clark.
Other significant entries:
Around 80 crews will take part in the Rally of Turkey, a turn-out that the organisers can be proud of as it is better than a number of the other rounds this season - eight in total, with the exception of Japan [90], Greece [91], Finland [100+] and Sardinia, which had one more [81].
Indeed it may provide them with further ammunition to try and get their event back on the WRC calendar after it was left of the schedule for 2007, along with Cyprus and Australia.
22 of those entrants will be in WRC cars and in addition to the ‘usual names’ entered by the manufacturer 1 and manufacturer 2 squads, Xavier Pons as normal will compete in the third Kronos-run Citroen Xsara WRC.
