With the drivers’ championship now done and dust, the focus will shift to the manufacturers’, where
BP Ford now enjoy a 16 point lead, something that means they only need to out score Kronos
Citroen by 3 points to sew up the constructors’ title.
In other WRC news, Manfred Stohl looks set to remain in a Bozian-run Peugeot 307 in 2007, while Kronos are still pushing ahead with plans to try and run a M2 team in the WRC next season.
“Thanks to our good results with the Xsaras and our drivers, we naturally have some contacts with potential partners and some drivers [for 2007]. We are thinking of starting a M2 team which will enter two Citroens in the sixteen rounds of the calendar,” explained Kronos managing director, Jean-Pierre Mondron. “Our ambition is to offer our future partners our experience in the WRC - and our technical partnership with Citroen Sport. We could have a solid package which should allow us to be amongst the strongest outsiders.”

Kronos Total Citroen WRT:
[Xavier Pons, car #1 and
Daniel Sordo, car #2]
Kronos have opted to nominate Xavier Pons and Daniel Sordo in NZ - the third time this season they will not run a third car.
Kronos boss, Marc van Dalen was delighted with Pons’ performance in Australia. Pons took fourth place and in doing so he helped to stop Marcus Gronholm from finishing in the top three and keeping the battle for the drivers’ title alive. As such his team-mate,
Sebastien Loeb secured his third drivers’ title in succession. That result was crucial for Seb and Kronos and while Pons’ performances have been largely over-shadowed this season, as a result of the form of his team-mate Sordo, Xavier certainly delivered last time out.
