The stages are very tricky, with an unpredictable mix of fast and slow sections that do not naturally flow, meaning the drivers find it tough to establish a rhythm. Overall, the stages are quite sandy. They’re also a little like those that the drivers tackle in Sardinia, as they include sections that are quite narrow and twisty.
Geographically, Mexico has always been one of the most compact rallies on the World Rally Championship calendar and the total length of this year’s event is shorter then ever before.

Marcus Gronholm moved to the head of the 2007 FIA World Rally drivers' championship following Rally Norway - and his second place finish.
His team-mate and event winner,
Mikko Hirvonen also made up ground and now lies second, 4 points adrift, while defending champion, Sebastien Loeb dropped from P1 to P3, a further two points back.
In the Manufacturers' championship meanwhile, a maximum haul for
BP Ford three weeks ago saw them jump to the top of the table and open up a 16 point lead over the
Citroen Total WRT, who scored just a single point. The
Stobart M-Sport WRT lies third, ahead of
Subaru and OMV Kronos.
The big news since the Rally Norway was the announcement by the FIA / the World Motor Sport Council that Pirelli will become the official tyre for the WRC from 2008-2010.
