Preview: Rally Mexico.

The WRC heads to Mexico this week - and for the first time this year the crews will compete on gravel, the surface that dominates the championship.

The first two legs each comprise two identical loops of three stages before two passes over a super special stage at León's race circuit. The track also hosts a double run on Sunday morning to bring the rally to a close. Drivers tackle 20 stages covering 366.06km.


Last year:

Sebastien Loeb won the event in 2006, 50 seconds or so up on Petter Solberg, who was ‘best of the rest’ for Subaru. Manfred Stohl took the final podium place, an extra 4 minutes adrift, while Daniel Sordo and Henning Solberg rounded out the top five.

A number of works drivers had problems, including both BP Ford drivers, Marcus Gronholm and Mikko Hirvonen, as well as Luis-Perez Companc, Matthew Wilson, Chris Atkinson and Xavier Pons. All managed to finish under the SupeRally though, with the exception of Pons, who went out after SS2 with engine problems.
