Citroen team boss, Guy Frequelin meanwhile isn’t getting carried away and as normal he is cautious, despite his obvious enthusiasm for the event: "Argentina is one of the year's highlights. The setting, the well-behaved connoisseur spectators and the highly varied stages make it a remarkable event. Classic tests like Giulio Césare and El Cóndor mean it is never easy though,” he stated. “That's why I prefer to be cautious before the start. We have a chance of winning, but I don't expect it to be easy."
Pressed on if they can keep up both of their winning runs, having won the last two events in succession and having won in Portugal the last three years on the trot, Frequelin added that they will be doing everything in their power to ensure they do.
"I hope we will once again be in contention for victory. Everyone at Citroën Sport has worked hard to give our crews cars that will enable them to battle at the sharp end,” he continued. “Argentina will again be virgin territory for the Citroën C4 WRC. Its’ performance on the last few rounds show that we are already making a great deal of its potential. We need to continue working in the same direction."
BP Ford WRT:
[Marcus Gronholm, car #3 and
Mikko Hirvonen, car #4.]
BP Ford team leader, Marcus Gronholm will be out to regain the advantage in the battle for the drivers’ championship in Argentina. Gronholm dropped behind
Sebastien Loeb in Portugal, after
that 5 minute penalty which moved him from second overall at the finish in his Ford Focus RS WRC to fourth. The Finn now trails Seb by one point and he knows he needs to strike back quickly.
Indeed Gronholm needs to maximise his potential on the next three gravel events prior to the summer break, as the second half of the season will feature four asphalt rallies, something that it likely to favour his Citroen rival.
"I want to get back in front of Loeb in the championship," said the 39-year-old. "I had a good test in Sardinia last week and hopefully we have found a few small things which will increase performance in Argentina.”
