Companc and Villagra both tested during the summer break and in total the Munchi’s squad did four full days of testing on both tarmac and gravel. In June they headed to Tarragona, Spain, for two days of tarmac work then over to Cardona, where they had two full days of testing on the loose ahead of the remaining five rounds in their 2007 ten event campaign.
“The test in Spain was very positive, I had my first drive with the asphalt specification car and what really surprised me, was the grip and speed levels around corners,” Companc added. “On gravel we came up with some good solutions and we hope to apply these in the gravel events for the rest of the season.”
Villarga meanwhile will be taking in his third event with the team this weekend, having been drafted in to replace Juan Pablo Raies post-Argentina.
He has been keeping in form over the mid-season break by not only testing, but also continuing his challenge in the Argentine National Rally Championship, which he currently leads by 18.5 points.
“This is my first time in Finland so I will try to do my best and get my first point for the Munchi’s team. It will be a great experience for me to drive a fast rally and it’s always nice to race in front of lots of spectators,” he continued.
“I think the hardest part of the rally for me will be writing good notes as I have not been here before, but if we can make some good ones I think we can challenge and hopefully get some points.”
Junior WRC:
The Rally Finland is the fourth round in the
FIA Junior Rally Championship and to date,
Suzuki have won all three events, with Per-Gunnar Andersson taking two wins and
Urmo Aava one.
It is no surprise then that P-G and Aava lie 1-2 in the Junior standings, the former having scored an impressive 28 points to date from a possible 30, while the latter has 24.
Jaan Molder is ‘best of the rest’ in third place, also in a Swift S1600, with 14 points.
This event though will be a lot more open, if only because P-G and Aava have not nominated it. Both will still take in the event though, the former in a Group N car, while the latter will run in a Lancer WRC.
