P-G Andersson meanwhile will also only be competing in Mexico for the second time. The Swede is also hopeful though that he can break into the points and add to the one he managed on the Monte.
"It's the sort of event where absolutely anything might happen," he added. "If things go well and other people have problems, you could be in the top five. Equally, you could be unlucky and hit trouble.
"Realistically I think we have to aim for the top eight. Because of the altitude and our lack of experience compared to everyone else, that would be a good result."
Junior WRC:
Nine nominate round 1.
Only nine of the 16 competitors in the 2008
FIA Junior World Rally Championship have opted to choose Mexico as one of their six nominated events.
Of those
Citroen's Martin Prokop and 2006 JWRC champion, Patrik Sandell will start as two of the favourites, along with Aaron Burkart and
Suzuki Swift duo, Jaan Molder and Michael Kosciuszko.
Prokop, who finished third in Junior championship last year, winning the two events in Germany and France, is eager to get his Junior season off to a good start.
"This year we will try to start on a good pace and maintain it. Last year some mistakes cost us some precious points and we want to try not to repeat them," said the Czech. "I have a small experience of gravel events now but the stages in Mexico are very different from those we compete in Europe.
"For this rally, we will first have a look at what our competitors are doing and choose our pace accordingly. That won’t be easy at the start as we haven’t completed any tests with the Citroen C2 Super 1600. The shakedown will be a good opportunity for that."
Molder, who was fifth in the Junior championship in '07, also wants to start the year as well as possible.
"Mexico is going to be a big learning curve for me, although luckily I have some knowledge of the Swift now and this should help," said the Estonian. "Suzuki has also contested this event before as part of the Junior Championship in 2005 - and the cars finished first and second!
