Luis-Perez Companc has conceded that while the Rally d'Italia Sardegna won't be any easy event, he will still go into it with the same aim as he had in Argentina, his home event, namely to try and score points and open the teams account.
Rally Argentina was a frustrating outing for Companc as he had to retire on the first ‘proper' test when he went out with suspension problems. The 35-year-old though was encouraged by his pace on the final day and he is hoping to repeat that kind of form throughout the entire duration of this event.
“My home event did not go as expected, the problem we had on the first main stage set us back for the whole event. However the positive side was the fact that I had some good times on the final day's stages and I am taking this knowledge to Sardinia with me next week,” he noted.
“I'm aware this will be a tough event but our aim is still the same, to finish the rally, get more experience and try to pick up points for both the Driver and Manufacturer Championships.”
As for the decision to axe Juan Pablo Raies and replace him with
Federico Villagra, Companc reckons it should prove a smart move, especially given the pace shown by ‘Coyote' Villagra in Argentina
en-route to that PWRC win and ninth overall.
“We now have Federico on board the team and I was very impressed with his pace in Argentina; he is very fast on the gravel surface. His aim is the same as mine and together we will be pushing for points for the Munchi's Ford World Rally Team,” summed-up Companc.
