Junior Rally Championship runner,
Urmo Aava has said that he is really looking forward to his next outing in the Mitsubishi Lancer WRC05 after making his debut in it on the Acropolis Rally of Greece.
The Estonian, who conceded that it was not easy adapting to the car having only really driven Super 1600 cars before, added though that he was happy to make it to the finish. Indeed while he only finished in fourteenth place having lost over 10 minutes in the final stage on Friday, he set some encouraging stage times, including eight in the top ten.
“It's been a good rally for me,” he reflected. “Okay, it's been tough, getting to know a World Rally Car when all I have known is the Junior car, but we have made it through.
“Now I have more of an idea about what driving these cars is about. It's a fantastic car and the team have been very, very good. I'm looking forward to me next outing in the car in Estonia.”
Asked about the Lancer and how different it is to the
Suzuki Swift S1600 he uses in the JRC, Urmo noted that there is just no comparison.
“A World Rally Ccar is very powerful and quite difficult. There is nothing there to compare with a Super 1600 car,” he stated.
Aava will now use the Mitsubishi Lancer WRC05 in his native country next, when he takes in the Rally Otepaa, before then doing another three WRC events with it - namely the Rally Finland, Rally New Zealand and Wales Rally GB. He will also compete in the Junior Rally Championship with Suzuki in Germany, Spain and Corsica.
