Britain's Barry Clark is just inches away from the 2007 Fiesta Sporting Trophy International title - and can clinch the honours next week on the Rallye Deutschland, the fifth round in the series, providing he gets a top-two finish.
Clark has won all four FSTi rounds this year - including taking the honours on the most recent event in Finland last weekend, and he will now be looking to wrap things up in Germany despite the fact there are still three rounds to go.
His dominance thus far this year has been outstanding and while the competition has been a bit lacking at times – only three runners entered the FSTi series in Finland, he has still shown good speed and incredible consistency in his Stobart-backed Ford Fiesta ST.
“Again our aim is to make it through the event without any major problems and I think if we can do this then a top-two finish is certainly achievable,” said the Scot. “To wrap up the championship here would be a dream. We came so close to wining it last year that it is one I really want to take home next week.”
Clark is aware though that it won't be easy, especially as Rallye Deutschland can be one of the trickiest events in the
FIA World Rally Championship. Notorious for its heavy downpours at this time of year the various mix of sealed tarmac roads can become extremely slippery when mud and debris is washed onto them.
“This will be our first tarmac event of the year in the Fiesta and I'm really looking forward to it. I wouldn't say I have a preferred surface, I just like to drive of any roads so I can't see why we shouldn't be able to get another good result in Germany,” he added. “We'll have to wait and see though, it can be a very unpredictable rally especially if the weather turns bad.”
Clark meanwhile will also be in action this coming weekend, having opted to do his local event, the Speyside Stages Rally, which is round six of the Scottish Rally Championship.
