1995 World Rally champion,
Colin McRae will be remembered at the RACC Rally Catalunya Costa Daurada on Thursday prior to the official ceremonial start.
McRae was tragically killed in a helicopter accident close to his Scottish home on September 15. The Scott died along with his five-year-old son, Johnny, as well as the youngster's friend Ben Porcelli and family friend Graeme Duncan, who was 37.
At 7.30 pm [local time] a small public engagement will be held to pay tribute to the Scot and it will include a screening of several pictures depicting him through his sporting life.
Several WRC drivers and several guests are due to attend the event ahead of the twelfth round in the 2007
FIA World Rally Championship, which gets underway on Friday.
"This rally should be a tribute to Colin," said
Sebastien Loeb, who worked with McRae in 2003 when they were both team-mates at
Citroen.
"Before I arrived to WRC, I was told he was a distant and closed guy, but in fact I met a really open and friendly person, a great guy."
There will also be a photographic exhibition of McRae competing in Spain in the hall of the Rally HQ in PortAventura. McRae competed on the Rally Catalunya nine times between 1995 and 2003, winning the event twice, in 1995 and 2000.
