[Speaking after SS6] "It was a little bit too hard and slippery for my taste [in SS5 and SS6]. The car was moving around a bit much."
[Speaking in service A] “I'm not happy at all. The cars set-up is not right. We need a stiffer suspension. The road is not only wet, as I like, but kind of oily too.”
[Speaking after SS2] “I'm having problems with the clutch, it's too hard, and in the first corner the car stalled. Then I spun off. We need to do better.”
Petter Solberg [Subaru WRT]:
"We've had no real problems today - just a stall on a start line one time - but that's it. The weather conditions certainly made things interesting, and it was very tricky at times, but overall I'm happy with what I've done here. Tomorrow we'll try to do the same again, but of course we'll always be looking for improvement wherever we can. I think it's possible to beat Duval – that would be good.”
[Speaking after SS4] "Today I am experiencing a lack of grip from the car, which on a fast rally like this where you have to lean on the chassis and tyres through the corners, is very costly so our overall position is disappointing given our pace in testing here. I have been changing some aspects of the suspension throughout today to feel the changes in grip they give, but we will need to keep looking to find more speed."
[Speaking after SS2] "Not so bad, it worked quite well. The conditions on stage were very slippery, wet and difficult, but that's the same for everybody. We had two front punctures on SS1 but the mousse worked okay so it didn't cause us any big problems."
Jari-Matti Latvala [Stobart M-Sport Ford WRT]:
“I have made good progress today both with my car set-up and also my driving style on asphalt. The car is handling really well now which means I can concentrate on improving my driving technique. When the roads here are dry I have a lot of confidence but the mixed conditions made it really difficult this morning. I can say that the last stage today was quite important for me. It was probably my best performance on wet asphalt and it has been a good way to end the first day here. The stages for tomorrow are similar to the last two today and I had a good run on these; I'm looking forward now to the second day.”
Chris Atkinson [Subaru WRT]:
"It's been okay. We didn't get off to the best start, with the wrong tyre choice for the opening section, and the changeable weather and the rain this afternoon have made it quite a tricky day all round. But it's good to get through, and good to gain experience in these conditions, which I guess I don't really have much of on asphalt. It's all valuable knowledge. We'll make some changes to the car tonight and see if we can't go a little quicker tomorrow. I think we can move up a place, but beyond that depends on how good it all feels.”
