BP Ford team leader Marcus Gronholm
may do selected events in the
FIA World Rally Championship next season according to the latest rumours doing the rounds.
Gronholm confirmed he was retiring from the sport back in mid-September however it now appears that while he won't do a full-season in 2008, he could end up doing a handful of rounds.
Speaking in the pre-event press conference for this weekend's Wales Rally GB, the Finn did nothing to dispel such suggestions.
Indeed when asked if he winning the championship would make him more or less likely to want to do some more events in 2008, he replied that it wouldn't change anything.
“I am not coming back next year... for the moment! It [winning the title] will not change anything but it will be nice to win it in the last year,” he responded rather cryptically.
As for his championship chances, Marcus added that while stopping
Sebastien Loeb from taking his fourth drivers' crown isn't very likely, given he is six points behind the Frenchman, it is still a possibility.
“My chances are not so good but there is still hope and I will try to do my best,” he continued. “We will see how Sebastien does – maybe he will fall off the ramp tonight [at the ceremonial start]!
“We have never seen Sebastien running lower than sixth place in any rally so I don't think it will happen this time.
“Let's see though – I cannot say anything now. We will know on Sunday,” he summed-up.
