The
Suzuki World Rally Team has confirmed that it will announce its driver line-up for 2008 next week.
The Japanese manufacturer will step up to the 'senior' level next season with the all-new SX4 WRC car, following several years in the
FIA Junior Rally Championship, during which Per-Gunnar Andersson won the drivers' title twice, once with the Ignis Super 1600 in 2004 and this year with the Swift Super 1600.
P-G is understood to be one name in consideration, along with his team-mate this year in the JRC,
Urmo Aava and Britain's Guy Wilks, who was also apart of the Suzuki Junior set-up from 2004-2006.
Wilks recently ended 2008 very strongly, securing the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship crown on the Wales Rally GB, as well as taking his first ever 'senior' points in the WRC, with a strong drive to sixth on the inaugural Rally Ireland.
Other names that have been linked to the team in recent months include ex-Ford and ex-Skoda works driver,
Toni Gardemeister, as well as
Francois Duval, who has driven for
Citroen and Ford.
Current SX4 WRC testers, Nicolas Bernardi and Sebastian Lindholm, who drove the car in Corsica and GB respectively, may also be in the frame.
The announcement will be made on Friday, December 14.
More to follow then...
