Sousa also survived a slow roll on day 2 and was extremely pleased to open his account on round 1: "I can hardly believe it, it's crazy! That was a hard bit of work today. Campedelli was coming in really hard on my heels. It was really difficult to find the right balance but the team's superb tactics paid off in the end," he noted.

In total 17 of the 21 PWRC runners were classified at the finish with Nasser Al-Attiyah one of the biggest casualties. The 2006 PWRC champion went out in the final stage, joining Evgeniy Vertunov, Gianluca Linari and Oscar Svedlund on the sidelines.
