Toni Gardemeister has said that he has faith that
Suzuki will get to the bottom of the engine problems that have dogged the Japanese manufacturer since it started its first full season at the 'senior' level back in January.
The Suzuki SX4 WRC has shown great potential so far and Gardemeister and his team-mate, Per-Gunnar Andersson have both already finished in the points, with the latter taking eighth at the season opening, Rallye Monte Carlo, while Toni was seventh on round 2 in Sweden.
At both those events though, only one car made it to the end, while the other was sidelined by engine gremlins. In Mexico neither made it passed SS4 due to a similar issue, with P-G forced out in the first service, while Toni followed just after having had to limp through the first loop due to an intermittent throttle response - something that cost him heaps of time.
With manufacturer teams only allowed to use five engines per year though, something which means they are 'linked' for three events, Suzuki has been limited in what it could do.
Toni remains upbeat however and rightly so as the speed of the SX4 has already been evident.
"Unfortunately my 100th rally has been memorable for the wrong reasons! We didn't really get a chance to show what we were capable as from the first stage the engine was down on power and we just had to try and get through the opening loop," said the Finn.
"It was a strange problem as sometimes there was power and other times there wasn't. I've got every confidence that the team will find out what the problem is however and we have to remember that the car is still very new, and we have a lot of work to do on it."
