Matthew Wilson has said that he is confident he will be able to get a strong points' finish in Sardinia this weekend, the sixth round in the 2008 World Rally Championship.
Wilson managed to get his best result of the year in Jordan at the end of last month and with
Henning Solberg transferring to the Munchi's Ford squad for this event – like in Mexico - he will again be competing for points for the team, as well as himself.
Last year's Rally d'Italia was a reasonably positive one for Wilson despite the fact he retired on day two with broken suspension, while in ninth place.
This year the 21-year-old will be looking to capitalise on the experience gained over the last two years and he is intently focussed on another points haul after two top-six results in Mexico and Jordan launched him into the championship top-ten.
"I'm looking forward to this event and it will be good to race back in Europe after three long hauls on the run," said the Brit.
"Last year I was running just outside the points before we retired but the feeling was good and the notes were working well so hopefully we can develop on this a bit more and finish in the points.
"Unlike Jordan the event won't be as physically demanding with the heat but it can be very rough in places so 100 per cent concentration will be the key to finishing this event without problems. I am pleased to be scoring for the Stobart team again this year. Jordan was a good result for us and I'm confident we can post a strong points' finish here for the team."
M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson is convinced his son will do a good job and help Ford's 'B' team in its bid to try and close the ten point gap to
Subaru in the manufacturers' championship.
"With Henning competing in the Munchi's Ford team Matthew has another opportunity to score points for his team this weekend.
"He picked up a good haul in Mexico and, with increased confidence after a strong finish in Jordan, I think he can help to move the team forward in the championship," Wilson Sr concluded.
