Of the rest Alessandro Bettega, Gilles Schammel and Shaun Gallagher could also score and the latter will be especially up for it after getting his first JWRC podium result two weeks ago.

"I was very happy with the second place we achieved in Jordan," said Gallagher. "We were lucky to get there, as our gearbox was beginning to have problems towards the end of the rally. I'm competing in Sardinia for the second time, having also driven there last year with the C2-R2.

"In a Super 1600, it will be a completely different event. The terrain is very difficult, with several rocks by the side of the road and sometimes in the middle of it as well. After Jordan, I think I'm going to be suffering from the heat again as well. I'd be absolutely delighted with another podium finish."

Other significant entries:

58 crews set to start.

58 crews are due to start round six - 18 of which will be in World Rally Cars, with all the manufacturer teams' represented.

In addition to the usual 'works' entries, Conrad Rautenbach and Urmo Aava will both compete in PH Sport-run Citroen C4 WRCs, while Mads Ostberg will compete in an Adapta-run Subaru Impreza and Andreas Mikkelsen and Peter van Merksteyn will both use Ford Focus RS WRCs.

Rautenbach, who had a nightmare event in Jordan, is looking forward to getting back on to familiar territory this weekend in Sardinia.

"It goes without saying that the last rally in Jordan didn't go the way I had hoped or expected; round five came as something of a wake-up call after the high of finishing fourth in Argentina," he stated.

"That said, I did take positives from Jordan – particularly the time I spent in the car on the Sunday. Saturday [in Jordan] and the crash with Sebastien Loeb was a bit of a nightmare. There's no getting away from that, but as soon as it had happened, I was looking to get back out in the car straight away.
