Patrick Snijers will compete for the 'BFGoodrich Drivers Team' in a Kronos-run Peugeot 207 S2000 on next month's Belgium Ypres Westhoek Rally, round three of the 2008 Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
Snijers saw off 55 other applicants from Belgium to get the drive, making an initial shortlist of five and then securing enough voters from a panel comprising 16 representatives of the Belgian media, plus representatives from BFGoodrich, Kronos and the RACB.
In the end he got eight votes, while the other drivers who made it into the final five were Alexandre Romain, with four votes, Pieter Tsjoen with three, while Melissa Debackere and Olivier Cartelle both got two.
Snijers will now get his first chance to drive the car in a test session that will be organised near Ypres on June 18, before linking up with resident Kronos drivers Freddy Loix and Nicolas Vouilloz for the event itself, which starts on June 27.
"It's great news to learn that I will driving for the BFGoodrich Drivers Team," said Snijers. "I am sincerely grateful to the journalists and to BFGoodrich for their confidence.
"I can't wait to show them that they made the right choice! My goal is to become the first driver to win Ypres five times."
BFGoodrich competition director Frédéric Henry-Biabaud meanwhile was again pleased with how the selection process worked.
"Yesterday was the second day of voting for the BFGoodrich Drivers Team and I am extremely delighted with the success the operation has already achieved," he continued. "The BFGoodrich Drivers Team has been designed to allow a number of drivers to showcase their skills on their home round of the IRC.
"We are pleased to see that the Belgian journalists have made their choice and we will now provide the chosen driver with all the human and technical resources necessary to reach the finish."
Kronos boss Marc van Dalen added that it wasn't easy to select one driver as all five candidates had excellent arguments in their favour.
