Luca Rossetti, the current leader of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, added another trophy to his collection last weekend by winning the Targa Florio in Sicily, one of the oldest and most prestigious motor sport events in the world.

The Peugeot Italy driver, who won the first two IRC rounds in Istanbul and Portugal, saw off the challenge from Paolo Andreucci, who was second in a Mitsubishi, while Andrea Navarra's Abarth Grande Punto was third.

Rossetti, whose next IRC event will be next month's Ypres Rally Belgium, was delighted to take the win on what is one of the eight 'IRC Supporter Events' that have registered so far.

"Of course it's been a very big privilege for me to win all these events at the start of the year – which is much more than I could have imagined – but it's hard to feel confident about Ypres," he admitted.

"It's such a specialised rally, where so many different things can go wrong, that it's impossible to predict what might happen.

"The reason why I won last year was because I was still there at the finish, and this is exactly what I am aiming for this year as well, but that's definitely easier said than done."
