Yuki Kagayama on the Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki took a hard fought win at round ten of the Corona Extra Superbike World Championship at the Eurospeedway in Germany.
He beat his friend
Noriyuki Haga on the Yamaha Italia into second place with only one lap to go. Third place went to the second Alstare Suzuki, with out going World Champion
Troy Corser on board.
Corser was pleased to be back on the podium after a bit of an absence, “It has been way too long since I've been up here. I'm happy but it was a tough race and the pace was fast from the first to last lap. Bayliss went down pushing hard, he just lost the front, so I eased off through that bend and I'm looking forward to the next race,” he said, “I would like to pass on my condolences to the families of Steve Irwin and Peter Brock who were both killed this week, it is a big loss for Australia but life goes on,” he concluded.
Haga who lead for a large part of the race was a little disappointed not to take the win after all his hard work, “I enjoyed the battle with Yukio and Troy-san but I am disappointed with second. The last five laps my front tyre finish. I'm now thinking about which tyre for next race.” During free practice Haga injured ligaments in his wrist whilst saving a near high side, “After Superpole I go to medical centre for my arm. This morning I still have pain so I have injection and before race I have pain killer. Now it works very nice,” he said.
Race winner Kagayama admitted the race was tough and he had to give it his all, “The feeling was one hundred and ten percent all race. Noriyuki was very fast, he have very fast average lap time and for first fifteen laps I'm catching. Last five laps his times are down so I get closer and on last lap I over take him. I drink beer tonight!”
