The Yamaha has been coming on well on the development front, we made some good steps from the test we had at Valencia before we went to
Donington Park. Took it to Donington Park and made good use of it and it was the best weekend we’ve had so far. The team went back and did a bit more work on the engine and we came here with something a bit different which we ran on Friday, I didn’t really like it but Nori liked it, suited his style I guess. I didn’t really like it so we’ve gone back to what we had at Donington and I feel a lot more comfortable back on the bike again. Especially in conditions like on Saturday it made it a lot easier to ride in the wet but I think it will be better in the dry as well.
It’s going pretty well here at Yamaha, everybody is happy to be working with everybody. I think my guys are still learning a little bit. I don’t think too many of them have worked on a Yamaha before, think they have been on Kawasakis, Hondas and Suzuki, ok it is still a motorbike but there are certain ways you need to work on it. I’m enjoying it, Dave Marton my crew chief (former Rizla Suzuki crew chief) he wants to get this thing working and we seem to be on the same direction of feeling and work ethic. I’m really happy I feel welcome in here. Me and Nori are working pretty well together we’ve discussed tyres and gearing just trying to get the bikes the best for both of us.
I’ve been hanging out with the kids and with Sam when not racing. It is fun times now with the kids, they are just talking more every day and asking all these serious questions, they aren’t silly questions anymore they are serious ones. Really got to know what to tell them because what you tell them is gospel and they understand, especially Kalani. If I tell him the sun is yellow then it is yellow or if I tell him it is black its black!
